The Ugly Money Talk is a personal finance blog where we talk about everything money, the good, the bad, the ugly. We discuss all those things that our parents should have talked to us about when we were younger and all those things we hoped we had learned more of at school. I am here to help you by talking about everything money, from the fundamental understanding of how you can grow your wealth, to tips you can follow to save more, possible ways you can attack your debt, why you should secure your assets when getting into a new relationship, various insurances which you must have, how you can save on your mortgage and everything under the sun that is related to money.
Unfortunately, we weren’t taught at school how to manage money well or grow our wealth. Neither do we know who to talk to about our money problems. Most of us shy away from discussing money matters with our friends or family. We fear being judged, being looked down upon, or even being the cause of jealousy for someone else. Conversations around money matters can become so awkward or ugly that more often than not, people resort to avoiding the money discussion altogether.
At The Ugly Money Talk, we discuss how you can manage your money better and get ahead of the game by making slight changes to your daily habits and lifestyle. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. No one has ever become a millionaire overnight, and no one ever will unless they win the lotto. However, by implementing slight changes to daily habits, everyone can set themselves up for a more prosperous future.
Who I am not
I am no millionaire myself, not yet at least. If you have come looking for a smart-ass finance guru who can give you investment tips or help you with names of stocks or ETFs to invest in, I am afraid you will be disappointed. I do not have any formal education or certification in finance, nor do I consider myself an investment pro.
Who am I
My name is Lopamudra Neogi. You can call me Lopa. I am an ordinary girl next door, who, just like you, dreams of achieving financial freedom and is working towards it. It is almost 6 years since I migrated to Australia in search of a better life. I came here with my ex-partner and my then one-and-a-half-year-old son and only $1000 which I borrowed from my father. We were lucky to have relatives here and we stayed with them for the first month and a half.
While we struggled to find jobs as new migrants, every time I had to purchase something I kept converting the dollars to the currency of the country I come from. If you have moved to a developed country from a developing country, you might be able to relate to the plight. The struggle was hard. I couldn’t afford the lifestyle I had back in my home country. That’s when I learned to live frugally.
The habit stuck with me even after I got a decent job and became financially stable. It has helped me manage my finances smoothly even as a single mother after my separation years later. Since then, I have been lucky to find a very loving partner. However, I still prefer keeping our finances separate as I want to be financially independent, and I want to achieve it through my own efforts.
The not-so-fun facts about me
For those who want to know what I do for a living, I am a Project Manager, and I love my job.
When not working, I love to take walks, listen to podcasts, or watch romcoms on Netflix. My all-time favorite TV show is Friends. I am also a sports enthusiast and my favorite sports are cricket and badminton.
I can’t call myself a foodie and though I used to be a chai lover, Melbourne has made me fall in love with coffee.
Why I started The Ugly Money Talk
It pains me to see people struggling to manage money better because no one taught them how to. I have started this portal to educate people to manage their money better and tread on their journey to becoming wealthy. Having learned my lessons the hard way, I want to be that friend of yours who you can talk to about everything, including money. I am keen to donate my time towards this cause which I am very passionate about. You might come across ads, affiliate marketing, or donation requests while browsing this portal. The proceeds would only help me pay for this platform and keep me going on this path of helping many more people like you and me on their journey to a wealthy future.
I hope this portal will be a safe space for you to talk about money, give you confidence in dealing with money, and inspire you to tread on your own journey toward a prosperous future.
Hope you have a great time on your journey to prosperity.
